Here is the one number to know about STRIPSTEAK Waikiki’s refreshed happy hour: $6 for a Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA, a beer the restaurant’s regular drinks list prices at $10. The new burger with bone marrow gets the attention, and it costs $30. We read the whole bar menu to see where the happy hour actually saves money and where it just changes the format, and the answer turned out to be mostly in the beer column.
What changed at the bar
STRIPSTEAK is Michael Mina’s steakhouse on the third-floor Grand Lanai of International Market Place, on Kalakaua Avenue in the middle of Waikiki. Its official High Tide page describes three things, all bar-only:
- High Tide happy hour, 4 to 6 pm, “exclusively at the STRIPSTEAK Waikiki bar”, with three new dishes
- Mina Meals, burger-and-nuggets style sets that come with duck fat fries and mango lilikoi pie, served at the bar “all evening”
- Wagyu & Whiskey pairings, small wagyu plates with suggested whiskeys, also at the bar all evening, “with food and drinks priced separately”
Aloha State Daily wrote the launch up on October 21 and describes happy hour as nightly. The official page gives the hours without naming days, so treat “every day” as reported rather than confirmed.
The High Tide menu, with prices
All prices below come from the restaurant’s bar menu PDF, linked from the Waikiki location page and checked October 25, 2026. The PDF prints “4:00-6:00 Bar Exclusive” at the bottom of the happy hour page.
| New this fall | Price |
|---|---|
| Bone Marrow Prime Beef Burger & Fries (caramelized Maui onions, aged cheddar, steak sauce) | $30 |
| Kona Lobster Toast (jalapeño, avocado purée, sesame) | $18 |
| Fish & Chips (market fish, hurricane fries, pink peppercorn tartar) | $24 |
According to Aloha State Daily, the burger comes with a flaming tableside presentation, and the market fish was mahi mahi when the reporter visited. The menu itself calls the burger “a labor of love over the past 40 years” for Chef Mina.
| STRIPSTEAK classics (the menu’s own heading) | Price |
|---|---|
| Spicy ahi tuna taco | $7 each |
| 3 Pacific oysters | $14 |
| 3 jumbo tiger shrimp cocktail | $12 |
| Chop chop wedge | $12 |
| ”Kung Pao” edamame | $8 |
| 7 oz Prime New York strip | $49 |
And the drinks, which is where we look first:
| Happy hour drinks | Price |
|---|---|
| Kirin, Coors Light, Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA | $6 |
| Wine (sommelier’s choice red, white or sparkling) | $9 |
| Sake | $9 |
| Lychee Mule, Lilikoi Mai Tai | $10 |
| Island Old Fashioned | $13 |
Where the discount actually is
We put the happy hour list next to the regular menus on the same site. Two things stood out.
The beer is a real discount. The regular cocktails and spirits menu lists Dogfish Head 60 Minute at $10, Kirin Ichiban at $9 and Coors Light at $8. At $6, the IPA is $4 off. For two people having two each, that is $16 saved before tax and tip, which is more than the edamame costs.
The steak is a smaller portion, not a cheaper one. The regular dinner menu lists a 14 oz Prime NY strip at $89. The happy hour strip is 7 oz at $49. On paper that is $7.00 an ounce at happy hour and about $6.36 an ounce at dinner, though the happy hour plate includes a vegetable side, so the two prices are not measuring quite the same thing. Either way, it is not an obvious steak discount. If the reason you came is steak, the happy hour version is the way to have a steak-sized taste at 4 pm, not a bargain. One small thing to know: the official page describes the strip with gomae broccolini, while the bar menu PDF says stir-fry asparagus. Ask if the side matters to you.
For a happy hour plan for two, the math looks like this: one bone marrow burger to share plus two IPAs each is $30 + $24 = $54 before tax and tip, or $27 each.
Mina Meals and the wagyu plates (all evening, bar only)
These are not happy hour items. They are available at the bar all evening, which matters for anyone who arrives after 6.
| Mina Meal (with duck fat fries and mango lilikoi pie) | Price |
|---|---|
| Chicken Nuggies (lemon pepper, house ranch, hot honey) | $21 |
| Chicken Katsu Sandwich (miso mayo, tonkatsu sauce, ginger pickles) | $23 |
| Classic Fishwich (American cheese, dill pickles, tartar) | $24 |
| Double Patty Cheeseburger (special sauce, onions, pickles) | $24 |
The Mina Meals panel, printed in both the bar menu PDF and the cocktails and spirits list, also offers a drink with it: beer $6, wine or sake $9. Aloha State Daily quotes general manager Kirka Erger saying, “A lot of people love the chicken nuggets; the cheeseburger has been a bestseller.”
The wagyu side: “French dip” bites $9 each, crispy wagyu meatballs with Japanese curry $15, a teriyaki wagyu skewer $16 and wagyu short rib with cucumber kimchi $25. Each is paired with a whiskey pour or an Old Fashioned, and a mini Old Fashioned flight (Japanese, classic, yuzu) is $41.
We do not drink spirits, so the whiskey half of this is reported, not tested. Since the restaurant says food and drinks are priced separately, it reads to us like the plates can come with a beer instead. We would confirm that with the bartender rather than assume.
What we would do
We have been to STRIPSTEAK’s happy hour before. The visit we wrote up was in 2017: cold Miller High Life, and the duck fat fries that showed up at the table early and nearly upstaged the steak. That menu is long gone, and we have not tried anything on the new one, so everything above is the menu, not our review.
If we went this trip, the plan is short:
- Be on a bar stool close to 4 pm. High Tide is bar seating only, and the dining room does not open for dinner until 5. The bar is the whole game here, so there is no point arriving at 5:30.
- Order the IPA first, then share the burger. The meat-heavy order usually goes to one of us, and a $30 burger is a lot of burger for one afternoon. Add the edamame if we want something salty.
- Skip the 7 oz strip at happy hour. Even allowing for the side, it is not where the savings are, and if we wanted steak we would rather plan a steak night properly.
- Leave the Mina Meals to the later crowd. They are the option for anyone who gets to the bar after 6. The Mina Meals panel prints its own drink add-on, beer $6 and wine or sake $9, with no hours attached. That suggests a late arrival could get the $6 beer with a meal, but the menu does not say so outright, so ask the bartender before counting on it. The mango lilikoi pie is the part we would not have ordered ourselves; we both lean salty over sweet.
- Be done by 6 and walk back. We do not rent a car, so International Market Place is a walk along Kalakaua for us. If you drive, the official page says validated self-parking is available; it does not list the rate.
How does it stack up against other Waikiki-area steakhouse happy hours we have written about? At Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, the posted deal was on drinks only (draft beer from $6) with food at regular price when we checked in October 2026. The Signature Prime at the Ala Moana Hotel discounts the steak items themselves, as of our September 2026 check. STRIPSTEAK sits in between: a $6 IPA, a short happy hour food list, and a separate all-evening bar menu. And if you want an actual steak dinner at 4 pm, the Capital Grille early bird is the different kind of deal.
Before you plan around this
- Prices and the 4 to 6 pm window are from the official High Tide page and the bar menu PDF, checked October 25, 2026. The PDFs carry no print date, and bar menus change; the location page links to the current version.
- Which days happy hour runs is reported by Aloha State Daily (nightly), not stated on the official page. Call before planning a specific day.
- The official page does not say whether the bar takes reservations or how many seats it has. If you are planning around a group, ask.
- Prices are before tax and tip; tipping at the bar is standard.
