Here is the one thing to know before you go: at Yard House Waikiki, happy hour means the food is half price — not the beer. Walk in expecting 50% off everything and the check will surprise you. Walk in knowing the food carries the discount, and this becomes one of the best-value afternoons in Waikiki.
We would know. We are a two-trips-a-year Hawaii couple who plans around one rule — do less, enjoy more — and for years our arrival-day routine has been the same: drop the bags, walk to Waikiki Beach Walk, and be at a Yard House table a little after 2 pm.

One more window we should mention for completeness: the complex’s official pages also list a late-night happy hour, Sunday–Wednesday from 10:30 pm to close, which current guides describe as drink specials. We are reliably asleep by then, so consider that one reported rather than field-tested.
Why the “half price” part confuses people
The discount is split: food gets the big cut, drinks get a fixed dollar discount. A $17 appetizer becomes roughly $8.50; a draft beer just drops by $2.
That split should change how you order. The more of your appetite you spend on the half-price list, the better the math gets. Our pattern every single time: pick the pizza and the wings first, then choose a beer to match — not the other way around.
When to go: 2 pm is the whole trick
Yard House sits on Lewers Street in the Waikiki Beach Walk complex, a short, flat walk from most Waikiki hotels. At dinner time and on weekend evenings, it draws a line. We do not do lines.
Arrive in the first hour of happy hour — 2:00 to 3:00 pm on a weekday — and in our experience you will usually be seated right away, order calmly, and still have the whole evening ahead of you. That is why it became our arrival-day ritual: after a long flight, nobody wants an itinerary. You want a cold beer, hot food, and no waiting. This delivers all three.
What we actually order
Three regulars and one alternate, all from the half-price list on our visits.
Boneless Wings, Buffalo style
The best-value plate on the list, and the dish we would not skip. Crisp outside, juicy inside, with a properly sharp Buffalo sauce that begs for an IPA. One order between two people leaves room for everything else.
Hand-Battered Chicken Tenders
Comes with a pile of fries and two dips — buttermilk ranch and maple Dijon — so it quietly doubles as a side order. Crunchy, generous, and easy to share.
Carnivore Pizza
Sausage, pepperoni, and bacon on a proper crust. At half price it lands in the ten-dollar range, which is hard to beat anywhere in Waikiki for a real pizza.
The alternate: Sliders
Mini cheeseburgers that were around six dollars during happy hour on our last visit. Small enough to add on, satisfying enough to argue about who gets the last one.
For beer drinkers: the tap wall is the point
Yard House is named after the yard-long glass, and the tap list is enormous — dozens of craft beers, heavy on IPAs, which suits us fine. Our shortlist:
- House IPA — the house original. Classic, clean, and one of the cheaper pours. When in doubt, start here.
- House Hazy IPA — fruitier and juicier; lately our first order.
- Big Wave Golden Ale — easy local choice. Yes, you can buy cans at any ABC Store, but it is better on draft.
- Gold Cliff IPA — light pineapple note; dangerously drinkable.
- Sculpin IPA — full-bodied; the one to pair with the Buffalo wings.
Beer flights are available if you want to sample your way through. Half yards are $4 off during happy hour, but honestly, we stick to pints. Nobody needs to manage a very tall glass on arrival day — that is effort, and we are against it.
Three rules that keep the check low
- Weekdays only. Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays are excluded. If you go on a weekend, go for the food and the taps, not for the deal.
- It ends at 5:30 pm, sharp. Orders placed too close to the cutoff can land at full price. Treat 5:10 pm as your own last call.
- Seats are easy at 2 pm, not at 5 pm. The earlier you arrive inside the window, the more the “no waiting” part holds.
