Morton’s The Steakhouse at Ala Moana Center looks like the kind of place you save for an anniversary, and at dinner it is priced that way: an 8-ounce filet is $64 on the current menu. But there is a second door in. From 4:00 to 6:30 pm, Sunday through Friday, the bar runs Power Hour, and on the menu we checked this month, eight of its ten bar bites cost $8 to $12. We sat at that bar counter on our first visit, back in September 2016, and it is still the way we would do Morton’s.
Power Hour, as posted today
The official Honolulu location page lists the restaurant at 4:00–9:00 pm Sunday to Thursday and 4:00–10:00 pm Friday and Saturday, with Power Hour on Sunday to Friday, 4:00–6:30 pm. The happy hour starts the minute the doors open. Saturday has none.
Three rules from Morton’s own Power Hour page matter more than any single price:
- Bar area only. The discounted menu is not served in the dining room.
- Not on holidays, and the page names Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and Valentine’s Day.
- “Menus & hours may vary.” Power Hour runs at participating Morton’s locations across the country, so that page is a general guide. The Honolulu page has the local menu.
The bar bites, with and without the discount
The Honolulu page posts both menus: the regular bar menu and the Power Hour version, with the same ten dishes. Prices below were checked on the official page on September 27, 2026 (Hawaii time) and are before tax and tip.

That works out to $3 to about $5 off each dish, or roughly 18 to 38 percent. It is not half price. It is a steakhouse kitchen cooking bar food at prices closer to a good neighborhood bar.
Drinks on the Power Hour menu: four cocktails at $11; State & Rush house wines (Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon) at $10 for a 6-ounce pour or $14 for 9 ounces; and beer at $6.50. The listed beers are Bud Light, Dos Equis, Heineken and Miller Lite, plus Athletic Brewing’s non-alcoholic Run Wild IPA, with “additional domestic selections available upon request.”
What we remember from 2016
Our first visit was in September 2016, and a lot has changed since. Power Hour then had two windows, 4:00–6:30 pm and 9:00 pm to close, every day except Saturday. The late window is gone now. We never had a use for it anyway, since we are asleep well before 9.
We told the host we were there for happy hour, got pointed to the bar, and took two seats at the counter. The discounted menu then was mostly $8 and $9 plates, and the lineup was different. We had a filet mignon trio, three small medallions with three different sauces, and the Morton’s Prime Burger, $21 at the time, with onion rings on the side. We said we would split it, and it came out already cut in half. We finished with a crab, spinach and artichoke dip with crisp toast, which was the best thing we ate that evening. The bar was dimly lit and pleasantly busy, and the staff was friendly and attentive.
None of those three dishes is on today’s Power Hour menu, and we have not eaten from the current one. The current prices come from the official page, not from our plates.
What we would do now
We do not rent a car, so we would ride the Pink Line trolley or TheBus to Ala Moana Center and make it part of an errand afternoon. The restaurant opens at 4:00, which is late for us (our happy hours usually start around 2), so we would plan to be at the elevator right at 4:00. That gives us the full two and a half hours and the best chance at two bar seats before the after-work crowd.
The order for two:
- Morton’s Wagyu Smash Burger, split, $19.78. Three patties and fries make it the biggest plate on the list. We cannot promise the kitchen will cut it for you the way it did for us in 2016, but it does not hurt to ask.
- Thick-Cut Onion Rings, $8. At $5 off, it has the biggest percentage discount on the menu.
- Petite Filet Mignon Sandwiches, $12. This is the closest thing to the filet trio we remember.
That is $19.78 + $8 + $12 = $39.78 in food. The listed beers are all lagers, and the one IPA on the list is non-alcoholic, so we would go with the $10 six-ounce Chardonnay. Two glasses bring the bill to $59.78 before tax and tip. Honolulu Magazine’s Frolic Hawaii priced out its own Power Hour order in May 2026: the wagyu burger, onion rings and mini crab cakes, “just about $45 for two before tax and tip.” Neither version is cheap. For scale, the 8-ounce filet alone is $64 on the dinner menu.
If you want a steak and a proper table, this is the wrong door. Book dinner. Power Hour is for the people who are happy with small plates at the bar.
Before you go
- Dress code. Morton’s FAQ asks for business or smart casual attire and lists beachwear, athletic wear, hats, tank tops and sleeveless shirts among the things that are not allowed. Management can refuse service even if you have a reservation. Coming straight from the beach, change first.
- Finding the door. In 2016 the entrance was a private elevator on the mall’s second level, with the restaurant upstairs. Honolulu Magazine’s May 2026 piece describes the same kind of setup: the mall level, “right behind Aritzia and near Bloomingdale’s,” with the elevator at the edge of the parking lot and the host stand waiting when its doors open.
- Prices and dishes rotate. Our 2016 menu barely overlaps with today’s. Everything in the table above is from the official page as checked on September 27, 2026. Check the Honolulu location page or call (808) 949-1300 before you plan around a specific dish.
